Morelganj (Bagerhat) Correspondent

The body of a van puller named Zakir Khan (50) was recovered from a canal in Morelganj, Bagerhat, three days after he went missing.

Locals spotted his floating body in the Baroikhali canal behind the Rupali Bank ghat area near the main market at 10 am on Friday.

The deceased, Zakir Khan, was a resident of Kalaron village in Zianagar upazila of Pirojpur district. He had been living with his wife and three daughters in a rented house in the Mollabari area of KG School Road in Morelganj for many years.

Zakir's wife, Nasima Begum, said he was mentally unstable and would often leave the house for days. She added, “Zakir used to beat me frequently. He left home on Wednesday morning and never returned. Today, I received the news that his body was recovered from the canal.”

OC of Morelganj Police Station, Md. Motlubur Rahman, confirmed that the police retrieved the body upon receiving the report. Zakir’s wife later identified the body. He added that legal procedures are being followed to take further steps.

Although the exact cause of death has not been confirmed, locals suspect foul play. Police stated that the actual cause of death will be determined after the autopsy.
