Upazila Parishad polls : AL 10, independent one win chairman post in Sylhet Div

Sixth upazila parishad election of the 1st phase in 11 upazilas of Sylhet division was held Wednesday amid isolated incidents.

The upazilas are Sadar, Biswanath, Golapganj and Dakshin Surma in Sylhet, Dirai and Shalla in Sunamganj district, Juri, Kulaura and Baralekha in Moulvibazar district and Baniachang and Ajmiriganj in Habiganj district.

The polling process was completed from 8 am to 4 pm. As usual, Awami Gigg genre candidates are among the winners, as in national elections. Out of the total 11 upazilas, candidates of the ruling Awami League have won in 10.

Sylhet Sadar: Sylhet District Awami League Vice President Sujat Ali Rafiq has won the post of Chairman in Sylhet Sadar Upazila with cup-pearl symbol. His nearest rival was Awami League leader of pineapple symbol. Samsul Islam

Dakshin Surma: Upazila Awami League joint general secretary as chairman. Badrul Islam won privately by getting 21 thousand 768 votes with telephone symbol. Upazila Awami League general secretary Mohammad Shamim Ahmad (motorcycle) was his nearest rival by getting 13 thousand 988 votes.

Golapganj: Manzoor Qadir Shafi Chowdhury,Present chairman and member of Sylhet district Awami League, has won the Golapganj Upazila Parishad election privately with the doat-pen symbol. His closest rival was Abu Sufian Ujjal, the founding convener of the Brazil Jubo League in the pineapple symbol.

Bishwanath: Former Upazila Parishad and district BNP vice president Mohammad Suhel Ahmad Chowdhury, expatriate of UK, has been elected privately in Bishwanath. His closest rival was Advocate Gius Uddin Ahmed, Member of Zilla Parishad and Legal Secretary of Upazila Awami League with pineapple symbol.

Dirai: Pradeep Roy in Dirai in Sunamganj and Avni Mohan Das won in Shalla. General Secretary of Upazila Awami League Pradip Roy has won the polls of Dirai Upazila Parishad in 74 centers. He got 30 thousand 452 votes in doat pen symbol. Upazila Jubo League president Ranjan Kumar Roy, the closest rival, got 19,936 votes in the horse symbol.

Shalla: Shalla upazila's 36 centers' private results show the former vice-president of district Awami League and former chairman of Shalla upazila parishad Avni Mohan Das has won. He got 23 thousand 932 votes in horse symbol. His nearest rival Shalla Upazila BNP president (recently expelled) and former chairman of Shalla Upazila Parishad Ganendra Chandra Sarkar (Pineapple) got 14 thousand 576 votes.

Kulaura: In the Kulaura Upazila Parishad elections, the General Secretary of Upazila Al Islah, the present (Acting) Chairman Fazlul Haque Khan Shaheed has been elected as the Chairman of the upazila. His nearest rival was the upazila Awami League general secretary and former upazila chairman ASM Kamrul Islam.

Baralekha: Private Awami League leader Azir Uddin won the Baralekha Upazila Parishad election with a motorcycle symbol. The nearest rival was the current upazila chairman Soeb Ahmad in Ghora Prateek.

Juri: Upazila Awami League information and research secretary Kishore Roy Chowdhury Moni has been elected chairman in Juri upazila with cup-pearl symbol. The nearest rival was the current Upazila Chairman and Upazila Awami League member Birmuktijoddha MA Moeed Farooq on the pineapple symbol.

Baniachong: Iqbal Hussain Khan privately won the pineapple symbol at Baniachong. His closest rival was Abul Kasher Chowdhury, the current chairman of the motorcycle brand.

Ajmiriganj: Former Upazila Parishad Chairman and Awami League leader Md. cup plate symbol in Ajmiriganj. Alauddin Mia was victorious. His closest rival was Ali Amjad Talukder, former Vice President of Upazila Awami League and former Chairman of Shivpasha Union Parishad in Kai Mach Prateik.
