Moynul Haque Mridha, Rajbari
Serious erosion of Padma has started at Daulatdia Ferry Ghat of Goalando Upazila of Rajbari. At present, due to rising water in Padma river, the strong current continues to erode houses, shops and river banks and ferry no. 6. As there is no action by BIWTA and Water Development Board to prevent the collapse, Goalando Upazila Parishad Chairman and Upazila Awami League President Md. Mustafa Munshi.
On Saturday (July 13) at around 12 o'clock, it was seen that almost half of Daulatdia No. 6 Ferry Ghat has disappeared under the river.
In order to prevent erosion, workers are bringing sand in trucks and throwing it in geo bags at the erosion site under the initiative of Upazila Chairman Mustafa Munsi.
Meanwhile, the affected families living in Daulatdia Ferighat expressed their gratitude to the Upazila Parishad Chairman. They said that no one has taken any initiative to prevent river erosion. A few days ago Mustafa Munshi visited the erosion site of Ferighat and then he promised us that if no one takes any action, then I will personally drop sand-filled geobags to stop the erosion for the time being. Today, he keeps his word, the endless waves of the river will be less.
Goalando Upazila Awami League General Secretary Biplab Ghosh, District Awami Motorchalak League President Tofajzel Hossain Tapu, former Municipal Chhatra League President Ratul Ahmed Sajal and local dignitaries were also present.
Meanwhile, Biplab Ghosh said that currently the water of Padma river is flowing over the danger limit. Even though the dangerous erosion of Padma river has been going on for a long time, there has been no proper solution.
Hundreds of houses have already been destroyed by the erosion of the Padma river. BIWTA and Water Development Board have not taken any action
Chairman of Upazila Parishad and President of Upazila Awami League Mostafa Munshi is currently throwing 1000 sand-filled geobags at ferry no. 6 to prevent erosion. We want the government to start the work of river management as soon as possible, this will save the people along the river.
Mustafa Munshi said, we are the people of Padma Par. Padma river is swallowing us all. My house also went to Padma river. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's touch of development continues everywhere. In continuation of this, the only demand of Goalando upazila is river management, which if done, Goalando will not disappear from the map.
He also said that hearing the news of erosion at Ferighat a few days ago, Rajbari-1 Constituency Member of Parliament Kazi Keramat Ali came and after visiting the erosion site of Sarajmin, spoke to the chairman of BIWTA and said that measures should be taken to prevent erosion. But BIWTA and Water Development Board have not taken any measures to prevent the erosion of ferry ghat. Even after visiting many offices, no work has been done. That's why I am putting some geobags to prevent erosion, thinking about the people of Padma Par. That is why we have only one demand to the Prime Minister that our river management should be speeded up, then I will be saved.
