UNOs assigned additional duties as Upazila Parishad Administrators in eight upazilas

The government has assigned additional responsibilities to Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) in eight upazilas across the country to serve as administrators for their respective upazila parishads.
The Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives issued a gazette notification in this regard on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
The appointments were made by exercising Subsection (1) of Section 136 of the 'Upazila Parishad (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024,' with the administrative order remaining effective until further notice.
According to the official notification, UNOs of Ruhia and Bhulli in Thakurgaon; Mokamtala in Bogra; Dakkhin Gafargaon in Mymensingh; Matamuhuri in Cox's Bazar; Chandraganj in Lakshmipur; Bangra in Cumilla; and Fatikchhari North Upazila in Chittagong will discharge the administrative functions of the upazila parishads.
Under the assigned roles, the newly designated UNOs will exercise full financial and administrative powers alongside their regular executive duties to maintain local administrative activities and ensure uninterrupted public service delivery.
