UGC targets full digital network for all universities by 2028

Canpus Desk

The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh has unveiled an ambitious plan to bring all public and private universities across the country under a unified digital network within the next two years.

The announcement was made by UGC Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed during a consultative workshop titled ‘Digital Transformation of Higher Education Management’ held at the National Science and Technology Complex in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Sunday.

Under the initiative, the commission aims to equip all higher education institutions with high-speed Wi-Fi, digital classrooms, and necessary IT support systems by 2028 to pave the way for fully digital campuses.

Alongside network infrastructure, the UGC plans to fully digitize student services—ranging from online admissions and fee payments to residential hall seat allocations and certificate issuance—reducing the need for physical campus visits

To enhance graduates' job readiness, Professor Mamun Ahmed announced plans to make internships mandatory across all universities within the next five years. Í

UGC members Prof. Dr. Machuma Habib, Prof. Dr. Aslam Hossain, and Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) Project Director Prof. Dr. Asaduzzaman also spoke at the event, which brought together IT scholars, researchers, and university officials.
