Two women die of dengue in Kalapara, over 50 infected

Two women have died of dengue in Mahipur of Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali. One of them was admitted to the hospital while pregnant and later gave birth to a child through cesarean section 2 days ago. The incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the area, with at least fifty more people infected.
Sources said that a woman named Sumaiya (25) of Latachapoli union of Mohipur police station in the upazila died of dengue on Sunday night. Two days before her death, she gave birth to a son. The son is in the ICU of a hospital in Dhaka. Besides, another woman named Safia Begum (30) of Najibpur village of Mohipur police station died while undergoing treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal.
According to sources from Sumaiya's relatives, Sumaiya suddenly developed a fever while pregnant. At first, they thought it was a common fever, but later it was diagnosed as dengue. Her condition worsened before she was taken to the hospital. Seeing her condition as critical, the doctor performed a cesarean section.
Local resident Hasan said, "We are hearing about new people getting sick with fever every day."
Kalapara Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Shankar Prasad Adhikari said, "The number of dengue patients is highest in Mahipur. We are conducting miking and door-to-door campaigns for public awareness. The process of posting an MBBS doctor in Tulatuli 20-bed hospital is underway, he will join in 2-1 days."
Kalapara UNO Md. Kausar Hamid said, "This is a very sad incident. Fogger machines will be sprayed in important areas to destroy mosquito larvae. The matter of the doctor at Tulatuli Hospital has been reported to higher authorities."
Meanwhile, more than 50 people in Mahipur and surrounding areas are infected with dengue and are admitted to Kalapara Upazila Health Complex and various hospitals in Barisal. Locals fear that the situation may deteriorate further if urgent measures are not taken.
