Titas Gas Well No. 28 launched in Brahmanbaria to add 12.5 m cubic feet daily to national grid

Commercial gas production formally commenced from Well No. 28 of the Titas Gas Field in Brahmanbaria, operated by the state-owned Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL), to bolster the nation's energy supply.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit, MP, inaugurated the gas production as the chief guest on Saturday afternoon.
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Commerce Chairman Engineer Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamal, MP, and Energy Secretary Md. Ziaul Haq attended the ceremony as special guests. Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner Md. Abusaid, District Council Administrator Alhaj Sirajul Islam Siraj, Superintendent of Police Shah Md. Abdur Rouf, alongside senior BGFCL officials and district BNP leaders were also present.
Addressing journalists after the inauguration, State Minister Anindya Islam Amit stated that the government has undertaken comprehensive plans to expand energy infrastructure by 2030, which will significantly reduce national fuel deficits and provide long-term solutions for industries, power generation, and household needs. He noted that three additional wells are currently being drilled at Titas, with administrative processes underway across the country to drill nearly 150 new wells.
Dug by Chinese contractor CCDC at a total depth of 3,601 meters, Well No. 28 was completed at a total cost of Tk 200 crore. The well holds an estimated reserve of 1.5 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of natural gas and will contribute 12.5 million cubic feet of gas daily to the national grid.
