Police on Wednesday recovered the dead bodies of three Bangladeshis within a span of six hours along the Jashore border with India.
Two of the bodies were found on the banks of Ichhamati River in Jashore, while the other was found floating in the river. Each of the corpses bore injury marks, and all lived in the Benapole area. Police have launched investigations to learn about the circumstances of the deaths.
Sharsha Police Station personnel recovered the day’s third body at 4pm from “Pach Bhulat” border area with BGB assistance.
BGB-21 Battalion Captain Lieutenant Colonel Khurshid Ahmed told reporters that the Indian BSF has denied involvement in the death.
The deceased, Sakib Hossain, was a truck helper. He left his village home for job on Tuesday noon, but was not heard from afterwards, said his grandfather Jabed Ali.
Later, on Wednesday afternoon, Jabed Ali identified the body after learning of a corpse floating in the Ichhamati River. BGB recovered the body and handed it over to the local police.
Earlier in the day, bodies of Jahangir Kabir, 37, and Sabur Ali, 35, were recovered from the banks of the river.
Sabur Hossain’s wife said he died while being transported to care facilities after he was found lying along the river.
On the other hand, a brother of Jahangir Kabir said the victim had started living as an Indian citizen a long time ago after marrying an Indian girl.
A few days back, amid Indian visa restrictions, he crossed the border secretly to pay a visit to his ancestral village home.
On Tuesday night, he decided to re-enter India without a visa, only to be found dead the following morning along the Ichhamati River.
The body would be sent to the Jashore 250-bed hospital for autopsy, police said.
