Threat to send video footage by boyfriend : Teen commits suicide by poisoning in Tahirpur

Unable to bear the humiliation caused by her boyfriend’s threats, a teenage girl named Abeda Sultana committed suicide by consuming poison after sending video footage on Wednesday afternoon.
Tahirpur police in Sunamganj sent the girl’s body to the district hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The deceased, Abeda Sultana (16), was the daughter of the late Sayed Mia from Sundarban village in Uttar Sreepur Union, Tahirpur.
On Wednesday night, SI Md. Imran Talukdar of Tahirpur Police Station confirmed the death of the teenage girl Abeda Sultana due to poisoning.
Rahima Khatun, the wife of the late Sayed Mia from Sundarban village and the mother of the deceased girl, told Jugantor that her daughter Abeda Sultana had been in a romantic relationship with Tabriz Mia, also known as Tanvir, the son of Abdur Nur from Faniakhali village in Uttar Sreepur Union, for about a year. To end the relationship, Tabriz came to their home in Sundarban village 10-12 days ago and physically assaulted Abeda. Subsequently, he continued to send voice messages through Facebook Messenger, threatening to kill both Abeda and her 14-year-old brother.
Unable to endure the humiliation from her boyfriend’s assault and the death threats, Abeda consumed poison in her bedroom at home after 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
Before taking her own life, Abeda recorded a video holding the poison bottle, blaming her boyfriend Tabriz, saying, “I had a great desire to live in this world, but you didn’t let me live.” She sent the video footage to Tabriz and shortly afterward committed suicide by consuming poison.
The deceased girl’s mother further stated that around 11 a.m., she left Abeda at home and went to a nearby hilly area to take food for her younger son, who was grazing cattle. Later, neighbors informed her that her daughter had consumed poison. She rushed Abeda to the Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex for treatment, but the doctors declared her dead. Rahima Khatun claimed that Tabriz had provoked Abeda into taking her own life.
When contacted for a statement, both of Tabriz’s personal mobile numbers were found to be switched off.
Dr. Mirza Riyad Hasan, Tahirpur Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, said the girl had died before being brought to the hospital due to consuming pesticide.
