
Terrorist attack on garment factory for not paying extortion money, wall demolished

Allegations have been made of an attack and vandalism on a garment factory in Dakshin Dhanuya area of Sreepur upazila in Gazipur for not paying extortion money. The factory authorities claimed that about Tk 8 lakh worth of damage was caused.
Habibur Rahman Khan, Manager of the Human Resources Department of the factory named ‘Confidence Knit Wear Limited’, said that on Sunday at around 8 pm, local Rafiz Uddin (Rafi), Iman Khan, Mokbul Khan, Ramzan Ali, Alamgir, Sharif Mia and 10-12 others came to the main gate of the factory with local weapons and demanded Tk 10 lakh extortion. When they refused to pay, he was abused with obscene language.
Later, the accused went to the west-south corner of the factory and broke down the boundary wall about 8 feet high and 200 to 250 feet long with an iron hammer, resulting in an estimated loss of Tk 8 lakh, claimed the authorities.
The next day Monday (14 July), when tried to talk to the accused Mokbul Khan on the spot, he said, “I do not want to say anything in front of the camera.”
OC of Sreepur Police Station Abdul Barik said, “We have received the complaint. Necessary legal action will be taken subject to investigation.”
