A 17-year-old teenager named Jihad was stabbed to death over allegations of battery theft in Narayanganj, leading to the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect named Arman. The incident occurred on Tuesday night in the Dargah area of Fatullah.

Jihad, originally from Patuakhali’s Sadar Upazila, lived in West Lamapara with his family. The suspect, Arman, is the son of Akhtar Sheikh, a resident of Lamapara.

According to Anwar Hossain, an inspector at Fatullah Model Police Station, the incident unfolded near a fruit shop owned by Arman’s uncle, Shahin Mia, in front of the Dargah Mosque. Around 7:45 PM, Shahin discovered that a battery used to power a lightbulb had been stolen.

Jihad and two others were standing nearby, which led Arman to confront them about the theft. The situation escalated into an argument and physical altercation. Enraged, Arman went home, grabbed a switchblade, and stabbed Jihad, leaving him critically injured.

Locals detained Arman and rushed Jihad to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 11 PM. Police have filed a case regarding the incident.

Boy kidnapped, murdered in N’ganj over mobile issue

In a shocking incident in Fatullah, a 7-year-old boy named Mustakin was kidnapped and murdered as an act of revenge against his father, Hashim Mia. Police have arrested two suspects involved in the crime.

The arrested individuals are Tanzil (24), son of Obaidullah Babu, and Nur Mohammad alias Shah Alam (20), son of the late Forjul Islam. Both lived in a rented house in Lamapara, near Salam Mia’s residence.

According to police reports, Tanzil had a dispute with Mustakin’s father over a mobile phone. Seeking revenge, he and his accomplice, Nur Mohammad, planned the kidnapping and murder.

On January 5, Tanzil lured the child with 20 taka and bought him chips before taking him on an auto-rickshaw to Kautail in Keraniganj. There, they took Mustakin behind a mosque, taped his mouth shut, and laid him on the ground. Tanzil then stabbed him multiple times with a switchblade, ensuring his death.

The killers returned to Lamapara while the child’s family launched a search and even broadcast announcements through loudspeakers. Shockingly, the culprits also participated in these announcements.

After three days, they fled to Mymensingh. On January 18, Keraniganj police recovered an unidentified child’s body and later buried it. Mustakin’s father initially filed a missing person’s report on January 6 and later filed an abduction case on February 14.

Using technology and intelligence sources, police arrested Nur Mohammad in Nandail, Mymensingh, on March 18, followed by Tanzil’s arrest in Fulbaria. That night, they recovered the murder weapon from Tanzil’s residence in Lamapara.

Narayananj’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Hasanuzzaman said, murder was committed purely out of revenge. Once arrested, the suspects confessed, leading police to verify the child’s identity through clothing kept at the Keraniganj police station.
