In the upcoming first phase of upazila council elections, there was a chase and a clash between the activists and supporters of the two chairman candidates in Domar of Nilphamari.

Seventeen supporters of both sides were injured in the clash.

The incident took place at Pangan Darga Hat of Pangan Matukpur Union of the upazila around 11 pm on Friday.

Talking to eyewitnesses and locals, it is known that around 11:00 pm on Friday, the election road rally of horse symbol candidate Abdul Malek Sarkar was going on at Pangan market. At that time Sarkar Farhana Akhtar Sumi, the candidate of the telephone symbol, took out an election procession with her supporters.

At the same time, when two candidates were campaigning at the same venue, tensions erupted in the area, with locals requesting the telephone symbol candidate to end the rally. At first, an argument started and later it turned into a fight. Seventeen supporters of both sides were injured in the clash.

Later, the locals rescued the injured and admitted them to Domar Upazila Health Complex. Doctor Parmita Roy, who is in charge of the emergency department of the Upazila Health Complex, confirmed the admission of the injured. Domar Thana police came to the spot after receiving the information and controlled the situation.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (Domar-Circle) Ali Mohammad Abdullah and Upazila Executive Officer Nazmul Alam BPAA also visited the spot.

Meanwhile, Sarkar Farhana Akhtar Sumi, the candidate for the telephone symbol, came live from the scene on social media Facebook from her own account. He said on Facebook live, we came to Pangaon, the candidates here had already planned to attack us. Two of our boys were badly hurt, some had their heads cracked.

Tried to attack me too. Vandalized cars, vandalized 15 to 20 motorcycles. They planned to kill me completely. I heard they did it at someone's fuel. Many people are saying that they did it on the fuel of MP Saheb.

Horse symbol candidate Abdul Malek Sarkar said, I was giving a speech at the pre-scheduled election road meeting with the permission of the police. Meanwhile, news came that my election office was set on fire and vandalized. Some of my workers in the office are being severely beaten.

Then we went there and sent our injured workers to the hospital. If you check the footage of CC cameras in the market, everything is clear. I demand a fair trial from the authorities.

Mohsin Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Domar Police Station said that the situation was not under control after receiving the information. Legal action will be taken if complaints are received.
