Supporters of AL candidate injured in attacks by Shamsul’s men

At least seven supporters of Awami League (AL)-nominated candidate Motaherul Islam Chowdhury for Chattogram-12 (Patiya) constituency were injured in separate attacks allegedly by supporters of independent candidate Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury at Patiya upazila in the district on Saturday evening.
The injured were identified as Jane Alam, 26, Md Mamun, 25, Osman Goni Meah, 28, Md Fahim, 22, Abdul Razzaq, 22, Sifat, 20, and Tuhin, 20.
Sources said two roadside rallies of the two candidates were going on at village Kushumpura.
Supporters from the both camps chanted slogans creating a tensed situation at that time.
Later, some 20 to 25 supporters of Whip Shamsul allegedly attacked on the supporters of Motaherul with batons.
The attack left Jane Alam, Mamun, Osman and Fahim injured at the spot, they said.
In a separate incident, three supporters of Motaherul including Abdul Razzaq, Sifat and Tuhin were attacked by supporters of Whip Shamsul at Uzirpur under the upazila.
Whip Shamsul’s son Nazmul Karim Sharun fired some blank shoots at that time, alleged the supporters of Motaherul.
The Acting Officer in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Solaiman of Patiya police station couldn’t be contacted over phone for comment.
