
Suchitra Sen is returning after Uttam Kumar

Mahanayak Uttam Kumar is back on the big screen with Srijit Mukherji’s film “Oti Uttam”. Now, it’s Suchitra Sen’s turn. The legendary heroine is returning to Bengali life with some precious things from the past.
6 April is the birth anniversary of Suchitra Sen. On the same day, a special exhibition title “Suchitra” is being organised at Abanindranath Gallery of ICCR in Kolkata. According to Kolkata’s media, the exhibition will run from 6 April to 12 April.
Original posters of movies starring Suchitra Sen. Her photo booklet, song book will be seen at the exhibition. The audience will also see the advertisements, magazine covers, film stills of Suchitra Sen at the exhibition.
Moonmoon Sen, daughter of the legendary artiste Suchitra Sen, will inaugurate this special exhibition.
Prominent vintage film poster and film publicity material collector Sudipta Chanda, known as Kolkata’s poster boy, is behind this event.
Earlier, Sudipta did “Bachchannama” with the poster of Amitabh Bachchan’s movies. Later, he did “Panchmanama” with the poster of the movie composed by Rahul Dev Burman. Meanwhile, Shyam Sunder Co. Jewelers held an exhibition with Soumitra Chatterjee-starrer movie posters in Tripura.
Now, it’s the turn of “Suchitra”, Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers is sponsor of this special exhibition in collaboration with Surjit Kala. Bengali New Year Calendar featuring Suchitra Sen-starrer movie posters (from Sudipta Chand’s collection) will be re-released at his initiative.
Delhi-based illustrator Sid Ghosh has designed a special poster for the exhibition.
Born on 6 April 1931 in Pabna, Suchitra Sen was a legendary actor of Bangla filmdom. The versatile artiste of Indian cinema had a highly successful and decorated career spanning more than two and a half decades from the early 1950s to late 1970s.
Her unforgettable performances in a series of popular Bengali films such as “Sharey Chuattor”, “Deep Jwele Jaai”, “Uttar Falguni”, “Saat Paake Bandha” and “Pathe Holo Deri”, among others, made her a legend in Bengali cinema and a household name.
She set such a high benchmark for Bengali cinema which inarguably has been difficult to attain even till this day.
Suchitra Sen was awarded the Padma Shri in 1972 by the Indian govt. notably; she refused the “Dadasaheb Phalke Award”, the highest cinematic award in India, in order to stay out of the public eye in 2005.
The legend was conferred on West Bengal government`s highest award “Banga Bibhushan” for her lifetime contribution to Bengali cinema in 2012.
Suchitra also acted in a number of popular Hindi films. She was widely acclaimed for her first Hindi film “Devdas” in 1955.
Suchitra Sen passed away in Kolkata on 17 January 2014 at the age of 82.
