Rafiqul Islam Biplob, Gazipur
Inside the thick green leaves are numerous juicy pendants hanging from the buds that burst out of the stems. One must be fascinated to see ripe pendants hanging from some trees green and some yellow. The farmer of Telihati village in Sripur upazila of Gazipur.
This is the view of Abul Offa Zakaria's Latkon garden. This year, he is dreaming of earning lakhs of rupees from about 100 latkon seedlings. Starting seven years ago, with less effort and care, it started yielding after four years. This year he is going to harvest for the third time. Seeing his garden, hundreds of farmers in the surrounding area have already started cultivating latkon. Latkon farmers demand that Taltala village of Telihati will be known as Latkon village in future.
Abul Offa Zakaria is a homeopath by profession. He is also known in the area as a successful farmer. Cultivated lemon for more than two years in one piece of land. The lemon tree was removed from that land seven years ago as the lemon yield was good but the sale was not good against the cost of the ingredients. Started cultivation of latkon. Collected latkon saplings from Narsingdi area and started the service. After four years, 500 kg of latcon is produced. Dreaming of yielding 700 kg next year and 1000 kg this year.
Farmer Abu Yusuf said, he is encouraged by Zakaria's garden, I myself have planted a latcon garden. Cultivation of latkon is good in Taltali Elkaka. Sometime Taltali village will be identified as Latkan's village.
Agricultural worker Rahmat Ali said, Zakaria Bhai's latkon was installed after he was in care. After harvesting, the leaves are thrown away. Then I applied fertilizers and medicines. Before planting latkon on the tree, first rub the branches with a cloth. It gives good yield.
Farmer Safayet Hossain said, the garden is very beautiful. We come to see. Many people from the area and surrounding come to see. Many are encouraged and they are also gardening. Many also come to know about harvesting methods. Many people regret seeing such a garden. Agricultural entrepreneur
Dr. Abul Offa Zakaria said, I first planted 250 lemon trees in this garden and made a lemon garden. When I saw that selling 100 sacks of lemons and not getting even 100 rupees per sack, I cut lemon trees and planted latkon trees. Now very profitable. We have already removed 20 kg of latcon from a tree and sold it for 2 thousand taka. In another 15 days, the latcon ripening will begin in full swing. He said, seven years ago I brought latkon seedlings from Narsingdi area. First 100, the next 100, and lastly 100, a total of 300 saplings were brought. Distribute among ourselves. I plant 100 seedlings and take care of them.
I can sell 1 thousand kg this year. The yield will increase as the days go by. A tree takes time and care to mature. No more difficult care after that. A low-maintenance profitable cultivar is called Latkon. The way people are motivated in our area, many will do after 10 years. Export can also be done to meet the needs of the area. So far, I have seen at least 100 people who have started latcon gardens. Many people take advice from me. They mostly bring latkon seedlings from Narsingdi. Even if the effort is less, if you take care of the latkon garden and apply fertilizers and pesticides according to the schedule, good yield will come.
Agriculturist Sumaiya Sultana upazila agriculture officer of Sreepur said Sreepur is suitable for latkon cultivation. Latkan has been cultivated in 8 acres of land in Sreepur. We encourage the farmers of Sreepur to cultivate latkon through counseling and training. I encourage the planting of saplings through the pen. As latkon is a delicious fruit, everyone wants to cultivate it.
