Munshiganj Correspondent
Students vandalized Sirajdikhan Police Station in Munshiganj following a pre-announced human chain demanding the whereabouts of missing auto-rickshaw driver and school student Roman Sheikh (15).
The incident occurred at around 11:30 AM on Wednesday. During the attack, doors, windows, furniture, and five vehicles at the police station were damaged.
According to locals, the human chain was organized in the morning at Sirajdikhan Upazila Mor under the banner of the general public of Kola Union, demanding the missing Roman's whereabouts. Students from various educational institutions and locals gathered for the demonstration. After the human chain, enraged students and residents took out a protest march and suddenly attacked Sirajdikhan Police Station and the adjacent office of the Assistant Superintendent of Police. During the attack, five vehicles, doors, windows, and furniture inside the police station were vandalized.
Investigations revealed that the protest erupted as locals and students grew frustrated over the long delay in finding the missing person. Protesters have issued a three-day ultimatum demanding Roman’s whereabouts.
Sirajdikhan Circle's Assistant Superintendent of Police, Imran Khan, stated that after the human chain, the protesters suddenly launched an attack on the police station building. Several vehicles parked in front of the station, along with doors, windows, and furniture, were vandalized.
It is mentioned that Roman Sheikh, son of Miraj Sheikh from Thoirgaon village in Sirajdikhan Upazila, has been missing since January 21. Locals say their main grievance is that even after 23 days, the police have failed to locate Roman Sheikh.
Sirajdikhan UNO Shahina Akter confirmed the incident, stating that the administration is working to maintain order, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
