Students afraid of walking on dilapidated roads, need urgent repair

Kashinagar Government Primary School located in Sagarnal Union of Juri Upazila of Moulvibazar is located on the banks of Juri River.

The only way to get to that institution is by crossing the river defense embankment. A part of the road in front of the school is gradually disappearing under the river due to erosion. Recently, there was big erosion in that place and panicked.

Students read in school. This has reduced the attendance of students in schools. In this situation, communication with that organization is about to be cut off. In this regard, the Water Development Board (WDB ) has taken initiatives to preserve the banks in some of the erosion prone areas in Kashinagar area. But, even though the stipulated time has passed, the concerned contractor has not yet started the work. It has been seen on the surface that Kashinagar Government Primary School was established in 1962. Currently the number of students in the institution is 75. The Juri River flows in front of the school. Due to the dry season, the water in the river is low. About 70 feet of the river embankment broke right in front of the school. Two bamboo groves hold some soil in the eroded area. People of the area including students are at risk walking by the bamboo grove.

A few teachers are standing there holding hands of young students and passing the place. Keep several geo bags filled with sand around the affected area. Retired health inspector Prabhat Chandra Nath, a resident of Kashinagar village, said, "During the monsoons, the hill slopes from the upper reaches come down through the Juri River." But, it was not entirely sustainable. Meanwhile, 10-15 days ago, a large part of the dam collapsed due to erosion. Now the situation has stopped communication with the school. Prabhat Chandra Nath also said that work should be done on the initiative of the public in the areas prone to erosion. But there is a lot of delay in this work being this situation would not have happened if the work had been started sooner. Shati Rani Debnath, head teacher of the school said that the dam road is the only means of transportation to the school. Student attendance has dropped considerably since the recent demolition. According to the sources of Paubo, the conservation work of banks in the area of 110 meters affected by erosion in Kashinagar area of Juri River was supposed to start in June last year (2022).

A contractor company of Brahmanbaria called 'Hasan City' got the job at a cost of around two crore taka. The work was supposed to be completed in June this year (2023). But, because it is not The time is extended till June 24 next year (2024). Sajjad Hossain, the representative of the contracting company, said that the work is being delayed due to the lack of space for making sand and blocks. Jasim Uddin said about 3,000 sand-filled geo bags are needed for arrow preservation. The contractor provided less amount of sand in geo bags. Hence, their weight is asked to be fixed. They are repeatedly urged to start work quickly.
