Speakers for execution of national volunteers' policy for economic emancipation

Speakers at a seminar have called upon the government to implement the national volunteers' policy to ensure economic emancipation and building a prosperous and just society.
Representatives from government departments and non-governmental organizations made the call while speaking at a seminar on "Urban Volunteer Planning" held at CIRDAP auditorium in the city on Monday.
The national volunteers' policy can play a vital role to bring back discipline in voluntary activities. And the roles of volunteers are very important in carrying forward the country that earned its independence through War of Liberation," they observed.
The seminar organised by Good Neighbours- Bangladesh (GNB), a non-government organisation, with its Country Director M Mainuddin Moinul in the chair.
Speaking the seminar, Director General of Department of Youth Development Md Azaharul Islam focused on the government plan to use the youth force of the country.
Terming the youth folk as the main driving force, he said measures have been taken to provide them appropriate trainings from the Department of Youth Development and facilitate them with loans.
He however regretted that many youths are deprived from these opportunities due to lack of awareness.
The DYD DG called upon all to work together to turn the youth folks as skilled manpower.
Mainuddin Moinul said an organised platform is enough to wake up youth volunteers as and thus flourishment of youth skills is very important.
If the youth get the opportunities they would be able to play their important roles to build the nation and society, he said adding that the GNB would stand by them.
Country coordinator of UN Volunteer-Bangladesh, Md Akhteruddin, executive director of Oporajeyo Bangladesh Wahid Banu, General secretary of National Adolocent Advocacy Forum Nasima Akhter Joly, Masudul Islam Neel,, Deepti Chowdhury and GNB manager Rajia Sultana, among others, addressed the function.
Over 100 youths participated in the seminar.
The GNB works for development of child, woman and youth from 1996.
