SOS Project Information Meeting held in Sylhet

Considering the overall situation of the terrible floods in Sylhet district, SOS International Children's Villages Bangladesh is going to implement a special project titled Humanitarian Assistance for the flood victims of Sylhet for a period of 6 months (from 1 November 2024 to 30 April 2025).

To implement this project, a project information meeting held at SOS Children's Village Sylhet premises in Dayamir Union, Osmaninagar Upazila Sylhet on Wednesday in collaboration with the local administration and other stakeholders.

The Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Osmaninagar and Balaganj Sylhet, and the chairmen of the concerned Union Parishads were invited to the information meeting.

The information meeting, chaired by Assistant Director and In-charge of SOS Children's Village Sylhet Md. Mazharul Islam and conducted by Assistant Director and In-charge of SOS Social Center Sylhet Tanbir Ahmed, was attended by SOS Bangladesh ERP Focal Person and SOS Children's Village Dhaka Project Director Mohammad Yusuf Ali, Assistant Director of Finance and Accounts of SOS Children's Village Bangladesh National Office Md. Mizanur Rahman, MD Engineer Shahjahan Khan Ripon of Glorious Architects, Sylhet Bureau Chief of The New Nation S A Shofiee, Branch Manager of Rupali Bank Dayami Md. Mosharraf Hossain, heads of various educational institutions, local Dignitaries, media personnel, all co-workers of SOS Children's Village Sylhet S, and all co-workers related to the project were present.

It is worth noting that this project is going to be implemented in Osmaninagar and Balaganj of Sylhet district in coordination with the local administration and other stakeholders.

SOS Bangladesh will provide a total of one crore forty-five lakh thirty-five thousand two hundred ninety-four taka for the project. A total of 3 thousand families will benefit from this project, the concerned people said.

CAB's Safe Food Fair inagurated in Sylhet

Safe Food Fair-2025 inagurated in Sylhet initiated by the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) and jointly supported by Friends in Village Development Bangladesh (FIVDB) and Welthungerhilfe-Bangladesh. The fair was held at the Raja Girish Chandra Secondary School and College grounds in Bandar Bazar, Sylhet city on Thursday morning.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet (General) Md. Anwar Uz Zaman attend the programme as a chief guest. He said this speech as chief guest , consuming safe food is essential for a healthy and beautiful life. It is not enough to just consume food. To stay healthy, safe food must be ensured. From production to delivery to the consumer, food safety must be ensured. We all have to be aware of this. He further said, unhealthy food can lead to excess weight gain and even various diseases. Therefore, everyone needs to increase awareness to ensure good health.

The inaugural ceremony of the fair was presided over by Jamil Chowdhury, acting president of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB). Sylhet Divisional Deputy Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department Md. Arif Morshed Mishu, Sunamganj District Safe Food Officer Md. Sharif Uddin, BSTI Assistant Director Govinda Kumar Ghosh, and Mohammad Abdul Mumit, headmaster of Raja Girish Chandra Secondary School and College, Sylhet, spoke as special guests.

The program was inaugurated by CAB Executive Director Ahmed Ekramullah, and FIVDB Project Coordinator Md. Hasnain delivered a welcome speech. Also present at the inaugural program were CAB Sylhet District Branch General Secretary Bir Muktijoddha Mohiuddin Ahmed, Publicity Secretary Md. Dulal Hossain, Member Iqbal Kabir, Member Md. Riaz Uddin, and others. 19 stalls participated in the day-long safe food fair. Various products were exhibited at these stalls.

Equality Society distributed blamkets to.tea workers, disabled in Sylhet

Blankets received from the district administration have been distributed among tea workers, disabled, daily wage workers and the helpless under the initiative of Bangladesh Equality Society Sylhet.

The winter clothes were distributed separately at Lal Mati Point in Pathantula and the base office in Lake City in Akhalia on Thursday morning.

Bayzid Khan, Secretary General and Executive Director of Green Disabled Foundation (GDF), delivered the keynote address at the event.

Under the chairmanship of Bangladesh Equality Society Sylhet Executive Director Ruksana Begum and the direction of Program Organizer Shah Md. Ali Hossain, the program was addressed as special guests by Sylhet District Jubo Dal leader Raihan Mia, District Volunteer Party Convener Committee member Golam Mostafa, and Lalmati Point Bazar Traders Committee Treasurer Md. Rostam Khan. Equality Society Sylhet Program Organizer Sahida Khatun Shilpi, along with elders and public dignitaries of the area were present at the program. The chief guest and guests distributed winter clothes among tea workers and the disabled at the program.
