Abdul Karim Mia is from a poor family in Sirajkandi area of Nikrail Union in Bhuapur under Tangail.

Even a few years ago, the family was not so prosperous. Later, he started his business as a carpenter to manage his family. In order to become a big overnight, he got allegedly involved in the smuggling business along with the pawn shop business. In the meantime, he went to Dhaka and after working at the rod mill, he returned to the village and started the rod business himself.

After that, the inter-district smuggling syndicate was formed under the guise of Awami League. In a short time, he became the owner of billions of taka and brought land and houses. The information emerged after the recovery of a large sum of stolen money from his godown in Sirajkandi Bazar and the true face of smuggling Karim.

On the night of September 18, the driver took a truck full of 20 tons of rods from Salam Steel Concast Re-Rolling Mills (Madanpur Unit) in Sonargaon area of Narayanganj. Hasan (27) left for Hassanabad Trerdas in Keraniganj. After that, the truck full of rods and the driver were not found. Later that day, the company lodged a complaint with Sonargaon police station in Narayanganj.

Shafiqul Alam Palash, General Manager of Salam Steel Mills, said that a truck carrying 20 tons of rods left the mill at night on the 18th.

Later there is no news about the driver, truck and rod. Later I made a complaint to the police station. Later on 19th, a helper in the truck came to the office and told that the rods were kept in a shop in Sirajkandi Bazar area of Bhuapur Upazila of Tangail and the truck was also there. Later, we went there with the help of police station and the truck and rod were recovered. However, the smuggler Abdul Karim escaped on hearing the news. I demand the punishment of accused Karim.

A few days ago, Karim Mia was a pawnbroker. The family was not running . After working in a rod company in Dhaka, he started the rod business again in the area. Later, he formed an association with the local Awami League leaders and formed an inter-district smuggling syndicate wearing the Awami League garb. Not only that, he was also the local master of dacoit gang along with drug, illegal sand business besides smuggling. They took away other people's land by violence and torture.

The locals have demanded the arrest and prosecution of various misdemeanors including finding out the source of illegal money of smuggler Abdul Karim.

In this regard, the investigating officer of the case and Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sonargaon Police Station of Narayanganj District, Saddam said, we started the investigation based on the complaint of rod theft. I can find out where the rod and the truck are from the secret news.

Later, 20 tons of rods were seized from the business of Abdul Karim, the owner of Mercus Karim Enterprises, the master of the rod thieves' gang. Karim has been absconding since the day rod was rescued. Efforts are underway to arrest him.
