A field inspection program of "Billroot Canal" was held in Gopalganj to protect the river.

Gopalganj District Administration and District River Protection Committee jointly organized the Madhumoti Billroot Channel inspection program on Saturday morning by an engine-powered boat.

Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner and learned District Magistrate Muhammad Kamruzzaman was present as the chief guest.

At that time, District Superintendent of Police Md. Mizanur Rahman, Deputy Director of Local Government Department (DDLG) (Deputy Secretary) Bishwajit Kumar Pal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Golam Kabir, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Sheikh Shamsul Arefin, Gopalganj District Ansar and VDP Commandant (BVMS) Mojibul Haque, Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Executive Officer M Rakibul Hasan, Muksudpur Upazila Executive Officer Tasnim Akhter, District Water Development Board Executive Engineer SM Rifat Jamil, District Public Health Engineering Department Executive Engineer Md. Faiz Ahmed and other members of the District River Protection Committee were present.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Kamruzzaman said that as per the government's directives, at least one river or canal in the district should be kept free from pollution and encroachment. Accordingly, we have inspected the "Billroot Canal" on-site today. We will start the work of freeing the encroachment in the areas where the river space has been encroached from February 10.

Incidentally, a total of 368 illegal structures have been identified from Manikdah in Sadar Upazila to Tekerhat in Muksudpur. An eviction drive will be conducted on all these illegal structures from February 10.
