Jhenaigati Upazila Awami League President and recently resigned Upazila Chairman SM Abdullahel Wares Naeem has submitted his nomination paper as an independent candidate for Sherpur-3 (Shrivardi-Jhenaigati) constituency in the 12th National Parliamentary elections.

He submitted the nomination to Assistant Returning Officer and Jhenaigati Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Abdullah Al Mahmud Bhuiyan on Thursday at 3:30 pm.

Sarwar Bahadur Lal, Acting Upazila Chairman Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury, Fakir Saiful Islam, son of a heroic freedom fighter, Zakir Hossain, former Vice President of Upzilla Awami League, former Chhatra League President and Secretary of Merchants Association Farooq Ahmed Farooq, former President of Union Awami League Azuzur Rahman Dhulu and thousands of leaders and activists of Bangladesh Awami League and its front organisations were with him.

After submitting the nomination paper, in response to the questions of the journalists, SM Abdullahel Wares Naeem said, I have asked the party for the nomination for the 4th times. But I was not nominated.

The nomination was given from Sribardi upazila repeatedly. Even in 52 years, Awami League party nomination has not been given from Jhenaigati. I have been in Jhenaigati upazila for 20 years. I have been serving as the President of Awami League. I was also upazila chairman.

On the request and advice of the people of Jhenaigati, I resigned from the upazila chairmanship and now I will contest as an independent candidate, Naeem said.

He further said, I have been working with the Awami League leaders and activists for 20/25 years and was the upazila chairman for almost 5 years. I have been serving the people all the time with Inshallah will choose.
