Chattogram City Correspondent
The Shaheed Zia Memorial Museum in Kazi Deuri, Chattogram, will remain open to the public, announced City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain.
He made this announcement on Saturday, during a Quran recitation and prayer session organized by the central Jubo Dal to mark Revolution and Solidarity Day.
Dr. Shahadat stated, “Shahid Zia was brutally murdered at Chattogram Circuit House as part of a domestic and international conspiracy. His blood is ingrained in this place. The Awami League government kept the museum closed for a long time in an attempt to erase his name. However, Zia’s name is etched in the hearts of the people, and no one can erase it.”
He added, “Ziaur Rahman declared Bangladesh’s independence from the Kalurghat Radio Station and initiated the Liberation War with his famous words, ‘We revolt.’ Chattogram marked both the beginning and end of his remarkable life.”
The event was presided over by Jubo Dal President Abdul Moinem Munna and moderated by General Secretary Nurul Islam Nayan. Several leaders, including Munna and Nayan, emphasized the need to preserve Shahid Zia’s memory and highlighted his lasting contributions to the nation.
The decision to open the museum to the public has been welcomed by party leaders, who stressed the importance of safeguarding the country’s historical legacy and honoring Ziaur Rahman’s enduring influence on Bangladesh.
