Severe winter hits normal life in Chilmari

Chilmari (Kurigram) Correspondent

After the torrential rains, people's life has been disrupted in Chilmari of Kurigram for the last two days due to cold flow and thick fog. The area is covered with fog from morning till noon. Even if you see the midday sun, it is still not the temperature of the sun.

Winter is felt in the district from the middle of November. Gradually its intensity is increasing. However, the minimum temperature in the district has been hovering between 15 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius since last one week.

While middle-class families prepare in advance for winter, the low-income earners and working people are worried about winter clothing collection. The elderly and children are especially vulnerable.

Hafizur Rahman, a day laborer at Paubo Dam of Ramna Model Union, said that he could not go to work because of the cold weather. Moreover, because I cannot afford to buy warm clothes, I am having a hard time with my family.

Rezaul Islam, an old clothes seller of Thanahat Bazar in Thanahat Union, said that the sale and purchase of warm clothes has increased since two days due to the increase in winter. As the price of old cloth is low, poor people are buying clothes from my shop to keep them warm.

Rajarhat Meteorological Observatory Officer-in-Charge Subal Chandra Sarkar said that the lowest temperature recorded in the district this morning was 15.0 degrees Celsius. Which is likely to decrease further in the future. In various areas including Chilmari, laborers and day laborers are trying to beat the cold by lighting fires as they cannot buy warm clothes.
