
Severe erosion in Halda river due to flood : Construction of sustainable dam demanded

Floods in Chittagong are eroding the banks of the Halda river. 12 kilometers of river banks and 20 regulators of 137 points in 8 upazilas of Chittagong have been damaged in recent floodsIn Haldakhal.
The water has flowed down the hills to the dangerous level and the erosion has become severe.
The continuous heavy rains caused severe floods in Fatikchari and Hathazari of Chittagong.
Different unions of these two upazilas were inundated by dam breaks and overflowing water at different places in Halda. Thousands of families are stuck with water. A terrible picture of damage emerged after the flood.
It is known that the dam broke at about 22 places in the Haldar river and caused floods in Phatikchari upazila. Although the issue of dam was discussed at various times, it did not see the light of day due to land acquisition complicationsAccording to Paubo's report, there has been extensive damage to rivers and canals in the recent floods in Satkania, Lohagara, Patia, Chandanish, Anwara, Fatikchari, Hathazari, Rangunia and Raujan upazilas of Chittagong. Out of this, about 10 and a half kilometers area of 98 places under the jurisdiction of Paubo Division-1 has been damaged.
