
Sesame cultivation increased on fallow land in Shibganj

The demand for sesame as edible oil has increased. Naru, Khaja, Moa and other delicacies made from sesame seeds are also quite popular. Sesame oil is also used in the cosmetic industry.
All in all, the value of sesame is increasing day by day. The farmers of Shibganj of Bogura have increased interest in sesame cultivation due to the production in all types of soil with little labor and low cost. Farmers are expecting a good harvest as the weather is favourable. According to Upazila Agriculture Office sources, sesame cultivation has been done on 3 hectares of land in the upazila.
Sesame trees are adorning the fallen land and alleys of land on Guzia-Medinpara road of Guzia agricultural block of Shibganj upazila. Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Shahin Alam is seen giving advice to farmers on sesame cultivation. It is known that sub-assistant agriculture officers Ruhul Amin and Shahin Alam encouraged sesame cultivation in fallow land. With their encouragement, some farmers including Moazzem, Abul, Lutfar, Nannu, Korbn residents of that village expressed their interest in sesame cultivation. and cultivated sesame in their fallow land and land alleys.
Not only in Guzia agricultural block but also in different areas of the upazila, one can see that farmers have cultivated sesame on the roadside in fallow land and land lanes.
Lutfar Rahman, a farmer of Medinipara village, said that sesame cultivation does not require fertilizers and pesticides. Cows and goats do not eat moles much, so maintenance is not expensive. They expressed their gratitude to Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officers Ruhul Amin and Shahin Alam for encouraging sesame cultivation. Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officers Ruhul Amin and Shahin Alam said that we encouraged the farmers to cultivate sesame seeds. Farmers took my advice and got success in sesame cultivation.
Due to the low cost and good yield in a short period of time, the interest of the farmers in sesame cultivation has increased. Shibganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Al Mujahid Sarkar said that sesame oil is a national crop. The demand of sesame food is increasing day by day. Sesame has been cultivated on a total of 3 hectares of land in the upazila. Scattered cultivation of sesame is being done in the whole upazila.
In the future, the farmers will be supported in sesame cultivation by providing seeds and fertilizers with government exhibitions. Seeing the good yield, other farmers in the area are also interested in sesame cultivation.
