Bauphal (Patuakhali) Correspondent

A day-long seminar and exhibition titled "Application and Expansion of Locally Invented Sustainable Technology" was held in Bauphal upazila of Patuakhali under the theme: "Regular rainwater harvesting will bring economic development to the country". The event took place at the upazila parishad auditorium around 11:00 AM on Thursday.

Presided over by Bauphal UNO Saleh Ahmed, the seminar was attended by Md. Mahmud Al Hasan, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, as the chief guest. Md. Ripaj Uddin, Senior Scientific Officer at INARS, BCSIR, and Tanvir, Scientific Officer at INARS, BCSIR, Dhaka, were present as special guests.

Addressing the seminar, Chief Guest Md. Mahmud Al Hasan highlighted that the scarcity of underground drinking water is intensifying day by day in Bangladesh's coastal belts, hilly regions, remote areas, and even in the capital city, Dhaka, causing the water table to drop continuously. To mitigate this water crisis, he explained that rainwater can be harvested through technology to meet the demand for drinking water, domestic chores, and industrial operations. He noted that a scientifically backed system for rainwater harvesting has been innovated by the Institute of National Analytical Research and Service (INARS) under the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR).

The seminar saw active participation from various NGO officials, as well as teachers and students from different local educational institutions.
