Md Hossain, Hathazari (Chattogram)
Sayem (20), who took part in the Anti-discrimination Student Movement that day, is still bandaged from the bullet wound on his leg. The wound above the right knee is very large. Screaming in bed.
After removing the bullet from the leg in a hospital in the city, the doctors said that an operation would be required to heal the leg wound. For which about 3 lakh taka is required but his family is not able to raise that money. Due to which he is now lying in bed without treatment.
However,on Saturday, August 17 of this year, it was informed in the notification signed by Md. Jahangir Alam, Secretary of Health Services Department, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has already formed a committee to investigate the casualties in the anti-discrimination student movement.
It was mentioned that the committee members will meet next Sunday to decide their course of action. In that notification, the government will bear all the medical expenses including free treatment of all the students who were injured in the anti-discrimination student movement in government hospitals and requested the private private medical college hospitals, private hospitals and clinics not to accept the chikingsa bill of the students who were injured in the anti-discrimination student movement. It was also informed that the government will bear all the bills of the students under treatment in these private hospitals if necessary.
When asked in a tearful voice, Akht Sayem, the son of day labourer Md. Siraj and housewife Rasheda Aktar of Ruhullapur area of Budha Gazi house in Rahimpur village of Mekhal Union Parishad of Kannajarid Kanthe upazila, told the words of his current physical condition after joining the anti-discrimination student movement.
That day, Sayem was shot dead in Looking at the physical situation, he said that there is nothing to support the family except the living space. Father's income is also very little. I completed HSC from Hathazari College. However, due to lack of money, I could not get admission in honors. I was temporarily working in a shop in the market to provide income to the family. I went out with my friends in the anti-discrimination student movement that day.
There was no way to sit that day. The bullet penetrated the mobile phone in my pocket and entered above the knee and broke the bone and came out the other side with the flesh. After the bullet I fell on the road. It was burning with pain. Friends who were with me rescued me and took me to Chamek Hospital. After 25 days from there, the doctors sent me home. And said to go and show again later. When I went back to the hospital a few days ago, the doctor said that the leg would need to be operated again.
They don't even speak properly. My dream was to slowly get admission in honors, get a job after finishing my education and make my parents and sister smile, but my dream was shattered. But still I dream that I will get well again and stand up on two legs, walk. But due to lack of money it is not possible to treat me. I want the help of the government to fulfill my dream. I want to go back to a healthy life. How can I walk if I become paralyzed?
Sayem's father Md. Siraj, security guard of a private bank in the municipality, said, 'I have two daughters and a son. I run this family by spending a lot of money from my job. I have come this far after a lot of hard work. The only son Saim's dream was to finish his education and get a job to take care of the family but suddenly a storm broke all his dreams. Now I can't sleep at night thinking about how to treat him.
Mother Rasheda Akhtar, wiping her eyes under her sari, said, "After hearing about the bullet hitting my son's leg, I felt as if the sky had fallen on my head. Poverty is the plight of the world. The boy is moaning in pain. We don't have any money to get him proper treatment. An appeal to the chief advisor of the government, Dr. Yunus sir, to arrange for my son to be treated.
Former member of North District Chhatra Dal Kazi Mohammad Ershad Uddin said that Sayem was shot and lying in bed today after taking part in the movement. It is very sad that he will not be treated for money. I appeal to the responsible people to come forward for his medical assistance.
Samaj Sevak Syed Mia Prakash Syed member said that the present government had announced that the government would bear the medical expenses of those who were injured in the agitation. But since Saim was injured, no one responsible has even inquired about him. We urgently demand proper treatment for Sayem.
