The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has cracked the case of Md. Sajjad Islam Sabuj (26), whose dismembered body was found in cartons, arresting his lover Sumaiya Akter Trisha (26) and her alleged husband Roknuzzaman Palash (26) for the murder.

The breakthrough was announced at a press conference on Saturday  by the PBI. The suspects confessed in court under Section 164, revealing a chilling plot driven by blackmail and betrayal.

Sajjad, son of Yusuf Ali, went missing from his Hemayetpur home in Savar on March 3. The next morning, locals found two cartons containing body parts on a Keraniganj roadside and alerted police. Another carton was later discovered near the Padma Bridge. Following a missing person report filed by Sajjad’s family at Savar Model Thana, the remains were identified as his.PBI’s investigation revealed that Sajjad and Sumaiya met two months ago through a prohibited app. Sajjad allegedly recorded intimate moments and blackmailed Sumaiya. Enraged, she conspired with Palash to kill him.

On March 3, Sumaiya lured Sajjad to Palash’s rented flat in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, where the duo stabbed him to death with a sharp knife. They dismembered the body into nine pieces, packed them into three cartons, and dumped two in Keraniganj near a hospital and one near the Padma Bridge under cover of night.

The case initially stumped authorities, with RAB, CID, DB, and police joining the probe. PBI’s use of technology led them to Sumaiya. On April 8, a PBI team tracked her to Gabtali, where she was waiting for a bus to Jibannagar, Kushtia. Following her to Chuadanga, they arrested her and a relative around 1:00 am.

In  interrogation, Sumaiya confessed to planning an escape to India with Palash. Based on her information, PBI arrested Palash from his uncle’s house in Chuadanga that night.Inspector Jalal Uddin, the case’s investigating officer from Dhaka District PBI, said the murder stemmed from Sajjad’s blackmail using explicit photos exchanged via a fake Facebook ID. On April 10, both suspects gave confessional statements under Section 164 before Dhaka’s Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, which ordered them to jail.
