Satkhira Dist administration announces ‘Mango Marketing Calendar’ to maintain reputation

The administration has taken initiatives to ensure safe marketing of Satkhira’s mangoes as there is a huge demand in the domestic and foreign markets. The Satkhira district administration has announced a ‘Mango Marketing Calendar’ to maintain the early maturity and quality of the district’s famous mangoes Gobindabhog, Gopalbhog, Himsagar, Langra and Amrapali.To ensure safe and fair marketing of mangoes, a meeting was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday  noon with  Deputy Commissioner Mostaq Ahmed in the chair.At the meeting, Satkhira Deputy Commissioner Mostaq Ahmed said that the district administration is conducting all kinds of activities to maintain the reputation of Satkhira’s mangoes. We have published the mango marketing calendar today. Accordingly, traders have been instructed to market mangoes.District Agriculture Extension Department Deputy Director of Farm Bari, Krishibid Saiful Islam, said that in the current season, the production target has been set at 62,800 metric tons in about 5,000 mango orchards in 4,135 hectares of land in Satkhira. Of which, about 500 metric tons of mangoes are likely to be exported abroad.According to the newly announced calendar, local varieties of mangoes including Gobindabhog, Gopalbhog, Bombay, Golapkhas, Baishakhi will come to the market from May 5. Himsagar will be marketed from May 20. Langra will be available from May 27 and Amrapali variety mangoes will be available in the market from June 5.However, in areas where mangoes have ripened early due to the influence of weather, the district administration and the Department of Agriculture Extension have said that mangoes can be marketed subject to approval from the Agriculture Department.With this initiative of the administration, mango farmers will get fair price at the stipulated time, and consumers will also get safe and ripe mangoes - this is the hope of those concerned.Additional Deputy Commissioner Bishnupada Pal, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Shoaib Ahmad, District Information Officer Jaharul Islam Tutul, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Monir Hossain, Satkhira Press Club General Secretary Md. Abdul Bari, President of Barabazar Raw and Ripe Goods Traders Association Rowshan Ali, General Secretary Rajab Ali, and various upazila agriculture officers and mango traders were present at the time.
