RUCSU organises free health vlcamp

The Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) has organised a two-day free health camp to provide Rajshahi University (RU) students with free medical consultations and healthcare services from specialist doctors.

The camp, organised by RUCSU’s Environment and Social Welfare Affairs Division, was inaugurated at 11:00 am on Sunday  at the university’s Shaheed Minar premises. The camp is being held on October 11 and 12, offering consultations in 16 medical specialties alongside nearly 15 types of free medical tests.

Dreamers Consultation and Research (DCR) and the National Doctors Forum (NDF), Rajshahi, are assisting in implementing the initiative.

Organisers said students can consult specialists in 16 fields, including ear, nose and throat (ENT), liver, kidney, respiratory diseases, gynaecology and medicine. The camp also offers nearly 15 types of free medical tests, including ultrasonography, electrocardiography (ECG), refraction tests and physiotherapy.

One of the key features of the camp is the arrangement to deliver test reports to students on the same day, generally within two to three hours.

Dr Ilias Hossain, a representative of DCR, said, “It is not possible to ensure healthcare for everyone through hospital-based services alone. That is why we have arranged consultations with doctors, diagnostic tests and report-based medical advice at a single location.

RUCSU GS Salahuddin Ammar said, “Students of Rajshahi University do not even receive proper primary healthcare services. In such a situation, receiving so many services at one place and getting test reports within just two hours seems unbelievable.”

RUCSU VP  Mostakur Rahman Zahid said, “We always want to work for the welfare of students. We pray that students suffering from illnesses will recover through these healthcare services.”

Speaking as the chief guest, university Treasurer Prof  Dr Matiar Rahman said, “Such medical camps provide students with opportunities to receive services from specialist doctors free of charge or at a low cost.

Prof  Dr Matiar Rahman attended the inauguration as the chief guest. Professor Dr Abdullah Al Mamun, Professor Dr Shakilur Rahman Shahin, physicians from NDF and DCR, RUCSU Vice-President Mostakur Rahman Zahid, General Secretary Salahuddin Ammar and other RUCSU leaders were also present.
