Rajshahi University (RU) employees continued their strike for a second day on Thursday, demanding the reinstatement of the dependent quota for admissions.
The protest began at 10 a.m. in front of the Syed Nazrul Islam Administration Building, with participants warning of further escalation, including suspending examinations and transportation, if their demands are not met.
Protesters emphasized that the dependent quota is a rightful benefit for their children and noted that similar provisions exist at other universities. Riyazuddin, office secretary of the Rajshahi University Officers' Association, stated, “Today’s full-day strike concludes this week’s program. Leaders will meet on Sunday to decide the next steps.”
The strike disrupted key university operations, including offices, administration, and residential halls, while the closure of the examination controller's office caused inconvenience for students needing urgent documents.
