It has been alleged that low-quality construction materials have been used in the construction of 4,300 meters of Dhankhali GC road from Khiyaghat in Amtali Upazila.

Locals have complained that contractors Shahidul Islam Mridha and Shaheen Talukder are doing substandard work.

The upazila engineering department is not taking action against this substandard work of the contractor despite knowing it. Locals claim that this road will not last long. The government will lose billions of rupees. The locals demanded to take action against it quickly.

It has been reported that 4,300 meters of Dhankhali GC road from Khuria Khiyaghat in Sadar Union of Amtali Upazila. Barguna Executive Engineering Department invited tenders for the construction of this road. Three crore four lakh 95 thousand 594 rupees were allocated for that work. The tender for the work was held on 21 December 2023. Varendra Contracting Company gets the job. The work is scheduled to be completed on April 21, 2024. But in June last year, the contractor abandoned the work on some parts of the road.

The contractor did not work even though the work period had passed eight months. He started that work last December. Locals alleged that the contractor started the work with low-quality stones and stones. Locals also complained that contractors Shaheen Talukder and Shahidul Islam Mrdha are working with low-quality construction materials. The contractors did not give the width and depth of the road as per the tenderAlthough this matter was reported to the Upazila Engineer's office, they are not taking any effective measures. Meanwhile, the Upazila Engineer's Office has discounted the bill for one installment of that work.

On the ground visit, it was seen that the contractor's people are working with poor quality.

Local Bachchu Mia and Kamal Hossain said that the contractor has constructed the road with low-quality ditches. This road will not last long. The government will lose billions of rupees. They demanded action against the quick contractor. They also said that in sustainable road construction, they demand to remove low-quality construction materials and re-build the road.

Motor cycle driver Nazrul Islam said that the construction material used by the contractor for the road work is nothing but a waste of government money.

Contractor Shaheen Talukder denied working with low-quality construction materials and said that he has already completed the work of 2,100 meters of road. I will start the rest of the work soon. He also said that although the upazila engineer has discounted the work bill, he has not yet been able to collect it.

Amtali Upazila Engineer Md. Idris Ali said that the contractor's bill has been waived.

Barguna Executive Engineer Md. Mehdi Hasan Khan said, if the work is done, the contractor must pay the bill discount. However, the contractor had used low-quality construction materials in some parts of the road, and those poor-quality materials have been changed after inspection.
