RMG workers-police clash: One dies, 30 injured in Ashulia industrial area

A readymade garment (RMG) worker was killed, and over 30 others were injured during a clash between workers and members of the law enforcement agency in Ashulia industrial area, on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka, on Monday.
Three RMG workers were admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar this noon with bullet injuries and one of them was declared dead around 1 pm, said a source of the medical.
The deceased Kawsar Hossain Khan, 27, was a worker of Mango Tex, the source said adding that the rest two workers are undergoing treatment at the hospital with bullet injuries.
A number of workers from different RMG factories staged a demonstration by blocking a road in Jirabo area around 12 noon on various demands, including their unpaid wages.
The RMG workers were continuing their demonstration to press home the demand despite the members of the law enforcement agencies asked them to leave the road.
At one point of the altercation, the police were compelled to fire tear shell to disperse the agitated workers that lead to a clash and counter clash between the two sides.
Police also fired bullets, leaving a number of RMG makers injured critically, our correspondent report quoting witness.
