Newly appointed Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has emphasised the need for reforms in the High Court Division, similar to those in the Appellate Division.
Speaking to reporters at his Supreme Court office on Sunday, he said: "Interference in the High Court is unthinkable. If there’s a syndicate, let us know, and we’ll act immediately."
Asaduzzaman believes Asif Nazrul, the law advisor, will not engage in syndicate activities.
He also hoped the new Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed would quickly improve the protection of citizens' rights.
When asked about the resignation of several deputy and assistant attorneys general and the closure of their offices, Asaduzzaman said: "We will address this issue promptly."
As for irregularities in the judiciary, the attorney general said: "The spirit of Bangladesh's 'second liberation war' is against irregularities. The people have stood up against these injustices, and I hope that the interim government will move forward to uphold the rights of the people."
When asked whether the High Court requires reform, Asaduzzaman replied: "I certainly believe so. The issues causing public dissatisfaction must be addressed there too."
