Railway DG inaugurated Kortia Station

After a long wait, the Sonalia Kortia station in Tangail has been inaugurated. Bangladesh Railway Director General Afzal Hossain inaugurated the train by cutting the ribbon and waving the green flag on Saturday morning.
Present at the event were Railway Pakshi Division Manager Liaquat Ali Khan Sharif, Divisional Commercial Officer Gautam Kumar Kundu, Kortia zamindar and former MP Morshed Ali Khan Panni, HM Institute and College Principal Abul Kalam Azad, Professor Shahidul Islam and others.
Locals said that the station was built more than a decade ago. The station was not opened due to various reasons including name complications. With the opening of this railway station, several lakh people of Tangail Sadar, Basail and Sakhipur upazilas will enjoy its facilities. In addition, several lakh people of Tangail's traditional government Sadat College and Kartia Hat will enjoy the facilities.
College student Anamika said, "We are very happy after the station was opened. Our transportation system has become easier. All facilities must be ensured for these women."
Local resident Shahadat Hossain said that the government was wasting billions of taka of resources due to the station not being operational earlier. After the station is operational, lakhs of people in the three upazilas will get this facility.
Another person, Zahid Hasan, said, "The railway station has been opened almost a decade after its construction. In addition to stopping all intercity trains here, we should demand development of the surrounding roads. That will ease our suffering a lot."
Railway Director General Md. Afzal Hossain said, "The journey will start with one train initially, but the number of trains including Sirajganj Express will be increased later. There are also plans to launch a Tangail commuter train."
