Incidents of holy Quran burning were reported in seven halls of Rajshahi University (RU) including Matihar Hall, Syed Amir Ali Hall, Ziaur Rahman Hall, and Shahid Habibur Rahman Hall on Sunday.

These deeply distressing events happend during the night, caused widespread unrest among students and others.

Students of Ziaur Rahman Hall, on their way to perform prayer, found a Holy Quran with its first and last parts burnt.

The charred Quran was placed on a shelf, and a logo of the Indian Border Security Force (BGP) was found drawn on a nearby wall. Similarly, another burnt Quran was found in the field of Syed Amir Ali Hall.

These incidents appear to be orchestrated by a group with malicious intent, aiming to destabilize the university's environment by exploiting sensitive religious sentiments.

The events have sparked outrage among students, who have strongly condemned the act and demanded that the culprits be identified and brought to justice.

Dr. Saleh Hasan Naqib, addressing the university community, assured that a disciplinary meeting would be convened to investigate the matter comprehensively. "We are committed to taking all necessary measures to address this reprehensible act. It is clearly a premeditated conspiracy designed to incite unrest, and we will leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth and restoring harmony," he stated.

To further the investigation, a nine-member committee, chaired by Pro-Vice Chancellor, was formed following a meeting at the Senate Building.

The committee is tasked with identifying those behind this heinous act and will submit their findings as soon as possible. Initial assessments suggest the involvement of a particular group targeting multiple halls, with the clear intent of undermining the university's longstanding tradition of religious harmony.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted that the uniform pattern of the incidents—where all the Qurans were burnt in a similar manner—strongly indicates a premeditated and malicious act. "This is a disgraceful attempt to disrupt peace and harmony. We have already informed the police and engaged investigative agencies to ensure a thorough inquiry," he stated.

The administration has urged all students to remain calm and uphold unity and patience while the investigation progresses is on.
