Bangladesh Chhatra Union of Jahangirnagar University Chapter demanded a speedy punishment of Mahmudur Rahman Joni, an assistant professor of the Public Health and Informatics department, who is accused of moral turpitudes.

A press release signed by JU Chattra Union member Tanjim Ahmed announced the demand on Monday.

“The university administration is delaying punishment though the allegation being proven against assistant professor Mahmudur Rahman Joni, who has been accused of misuse of his power to recruit a preferred candidate, including an immoral relationship with a female student and a fetus death, ” the press release read.

“The university administration has formed a structured committee to investigate the complaint against Joni after strong student agitation. However, conventional rules state that such a committee can exempt the accused during the investigation, but it has not been applied for the matter of Joni over two months has passed,” according to a press release.

The press release expresses deep concern over the accused teacher's continued use of invisible powers in his department, causing an uncomfortable environment for both students and teachers.

JU Chhatra Union Convener Alif Mammud and Co-Convener Hasib Zaman criticized the administration's lack of statement or protest against the controversial audio allegedly vilifying JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Nurul Alam.

Besides, the leaders of JU Chhatra Union also raised question about the controversial role of JU Proctor ASM Firoz-ul-Hasan and an assistant proctor of forcibly writing an exemption letter by the victim to give impunity to Joni.

JU Chhatra Union condemned the administration's anarchy including the demand of immediate punishment of the accused teacher and warned of strict agitation against the adulation policy if the ad if demand is not met.
