Protesters vandalised two army vehicles and set fire to another vehicle during demonstrations staged by local Awami League leaders and activists in Gopalganj on Saturday afternoon.
They also snatched the arms of an army man during the incident.
The incident took place near Gopinathpur bus stand in Gopalganj Sadar upazila.
A clash between protesters and army personnel erupted that left at least 15 people, including four army men, injured with two people, including a child, sustaining bullet wounds.
Locals said the Awami League men held a protest rally blocking the Dhaka-Khulna Highway demanding the return of Sheikh Hasina.
As the blockade created traffic congestion, army men reached the spot and asked the protesters to clear the highway.
The agitating protesters started pelting brickbats at the army members prompting them to retaliate with baton-charging. They also opened fire on the demonstrators to bring the situation under control.
Gopalganj camp Lt Col Maksudur Rahman said 3,000-4,000 people were staging demonstrations blocking the highway.
As the army personnel asked them to vacate the place, they threw brick chips, and at one stage they torched an army vehicle and vandalised others.
Four soldiers were injured in the incident, he added.
