
Protest march demanding recovery of abducted Satkhira BNP leader Selim

A protest march and rally were held demanding recovery of Abu Selim, the former joint secretary of Satkhira Sadar Upazila Jubo Dal and former general secretary of Alipur Union Jubo Dal, who is the only son of Alipur Union Chairman and BNP leader Alhaj Abdur Rouf, abducted during the Awami League government's regime.
Organized by Satkhira Sadar Upazila Jubo Dal, the protest march started from Itagacha Hat intersection in the city on Thursday (May 29) afternoon and culminated in a rally at Shahid Asif Square on Khulna Road. The event was presided over by Ainul Islam Nanta, former coordinator of the district Jubo Dal. Speakers included former district BNP general secretary Sheikh Tarikur Hasan, former joint convener of district BNP Habibur Rahman Habib, district BNP member lecturer Ataur Rahman, former joint convener of district BNP and chairman Alhaj Abdur Rouf, Alipur Union member Rezaul Islam, acting president of Alipur Union BNP Hadiuzzaman Badsha, district Jubo Dal leaders Abdur Alim and Farid Hosen, labor leader Rezaul Islam Reza, lecturer Shahidul Islam, Abu Selim, teacher Shahinur Rahman, Abu Selim’s elder son Samir Soyed Radmim, younger son Abdullah Siam, and former organizational secretary of district Chhatra Dal Abu Rayhan, among others.
The speakers stated that to suppress the BNP, the Hasina government has abducted many of our leaders and activists. Even today, their whereabouts remain unknown, and their families are waiting for them. On May 29, 2011, Abu Selim, a Jubo Dal leader from Satkhira, was abducted from Dhaka by individuals identifying themselves as law enforcement personnel. Even after 14 years, as the 15th year begins, no trace of him has been found. The speakers alleged that Satkhira Awami League leader Shawkat Hosen is involved in the abduction of Abu Selim and that his arrest and remand could lead to finding Abu Selim. They noted that after Sheikh Hasina fled, a few people who were abducted have returned from the so-called "mirror house." They demanded the return of Satkhira’s Jubo Dal leader Abu Selim and others.
The rally was conducted by Ahsanul Kadir Swapan, former convener of the district Krishak Dal.
