Protest demanding justice for classmate's murder in Pabna

Pabna Correspondent

Classmates and school teachers and students have protested demanding justice for the murder of Shimul Malitha, a former student of Zilla School in Pabna.

On Monday , a protest procession took out from the Zilla School premises, circled Abdul Hamid Road in the city, and met in front of the Press Club for a rally. At this time, school students, teachers and relatives gave brief speeches demanding justice for the deceased.

In their speech, they said that Shimul, a talented student of the school's SSC 2022 batch, was praised in the school and the area for his calm and humble nature. On the night of December 6, miscreants stabbed him to death when he tried to stop the conflict between two parties during a waz mahfil in Charghoshpur area. Although the police detained three people during interrogation in this incident, the perpetrators are still roaming freely. The protesters demanded the arrest of the killers and their trial under the Speedy Trial Act.

Shimul's classmate Jamiul Islam Sohan said, no one had any dispute with Shimul. He was brutally killed for no reason. When he was taken to Pabna General Hospital in his injured condition, he was referred to Rajshahi without any treatment. He could have been saved if primary measures were taken to stop the bleeding. The killers are roaming freely after the incident. If they are not arrested immediately, we will be forced to take a big program.

Shimul's father Shahin Malitha said, my son has never been involved in any trouble. No complaint or complaint has ever been received about him. My golden son was killed. I want a fair trial.

Some parents, who did not want to be named, said that the law and order situation in Pabna has become very delicate at present. One after another murders are happening due to the dispute between teenage gangs. They are always moving around with knives and fighting. There have been several incidents of fights between students in the district school. The law enforcement agencies are also not taking any action against them.

Meanwhile, Shimul's father Shahin Malitha has filed a murder case with Sadar Police Station on Sunday night against 30 known and unknown people including Bakul Sardar, Akash Sardar, Momin Sardar in connection with the murder of Shimul.

Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdus Salam said that the written statement of the deceased Shimul's father Shahin Malitha has been accepted as a case. Three people named Khalil, Mithu and Shanto have been arrested. A drive is also underway to arrest the other accused.

The OC also said that with the onset of the winter season, waz mahfils are being organized in every neighborhood of Pabna district. It has become a tradition to set up shops like fairs around these mahfils that last all night. Although there is a provision to inform the law enforcement agencies before organizing mahfils or any events, no one is following it. They themselves are not taking any measures for security. As a result, unpleasant incidents including communal conflicts are taking place. The district police has also called on the organizers to be aware of this.
