A press conference was held in protest of a sudden terrorist attack on Maulana Md. Abu Bakr Siddiq Talukder, Advisor of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Mirzaganj Upazila Unit  allegedly carried out by Mohammad Zafar Talukder and Mahbub and their associates on Thursday at 5 PM in the New Market area of Madhabkhali Union under Mirzaganj Upazila, Patuakhali district.

In a written statement during the conference, the victim alleged on Friday at around 5:30 PM, while he was at Abdul Matin Mia’s tea stall in the New Market area, he exchanged a few words with CNG driver Mahbub. At that moment, Mohammad Abu Zafar Talukder, upon spotting him, joined the scene and began a heated argument stemming from long-standing personal enmity. Together with Mahbub, he launched a sudden attack, leaving the victim injured and bleeding.

He immediately informed the OC of Mirzaganj Police Station by phone, after which a police team was dispatched and the attackers fled the area. The victim then went to the police station in person to show his injuries and filed a written complaint.

Later, the victim’s younger brother, Mohammad Jewel Talukder, arrived at the market after Maghrib prayers upon hearing of the attack. At that time, the attackers also returned to the market. When Jewel confronted them in front of Abbas’s tea stall to inquire about the incident, they attacked him as well. This led to a scuffle in which both parties sustained minor injuries.

The victim further stated that the issue is entirely personal and stems from ideological differences related to religious doctrine (Tariqa) and has no political motivations whatsoever. However, some ill-intentioned parties are attempting to politicize the incident.

He urged, through the presence of the media, that the local community and administration ensure a fair and thorough investigation and deliver justice accordingly.
