Press conference protesting land grabbing, death threats in Sherpur

A press conference was held demanding justice for the terrorist group uprooting the saplings planted on the land and threatening to kill them in Sherpur of Bogura.

This press conference was organized at Bangladesh Press Club Sherpur Upazila Branch on Saturday (December 2) at afternoon. Abdul Khalek, the victim, read a written statement at the press conference. He complained that they purchased two acres of land on the registered deed about 40 years ago under Sherpur upazila, Gopalpur Mauja J L number 146, R, S Khatian number 4087, 4088, 4086, 4085, 475, plot number 7162 present plot no 20743.

Since then they have been occupying. They have also been paying regular government rent by name. But on the morning of November 27, Abdus Sattar, Rafiqul Islam and Abu Wahab, son of Bujarat Ali of Salfa village of Khanpur Union of Sherpur Upazila came with native arms and sticks with their terrorist forces, illegally uprooted about 1000 Eucalyptus saplings on the land owned by the victims.The trees were uprooted and thrown into the river and the bamboo fence around the land was destroyed. He has lost about 3 lakh 15 thousand taka.

In addition, the family of the victims was threatened to kill and disappear the bodies along with damage to plum orchard trees and pepper fields. He immediately filed a complaint in Sherpur police station. Later, a case under section 144/145 was filed in the Additional District Magistrate Court.The court directed the officer in charge of Sherpur police station to maintain peace and order in the property and directed the Assistant Commissioner (Land) to submit an investigation report.

Victim Abdul Khalek, Md. Ibrahim Fakir, Md. Isahaq Fakir and Md. Belal Fakir and other heirs were presented at press conference.
