President dissolves parliament

President Mohammed Shahabuddin has dissolved the 12th parliament following a meeting with key stakeholders, including the chiefs of the three armed forces, leaders of various political parties, civil society representatives, and leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
The announcement of dissolution was made through a press release from the President’s office on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, a platform that led the recent protest, issued an ultimatum demanding to dissolve the Jatiya Sangsad by 3pm today, while the BNP also came up with a similar demand.
Besides, significant political developments have accompanied the fresh decision of parliament dissolution.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been released, while the government has commenced the release of individuals detained in connection with the student movement and various other cases.
