Pre-budget seminar held at DU

A pre-budget seminar on Pathway towards Budget Reform 2025-26  was organized by the Bureau of Business Research (BBR) under the Faculty of Business Studies, Dhaka University, on Saturday at the Dr. Abdullah Faruk Auditorium.
 
 The Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) of Dhaka University, Prof  Dr. Sayma Haque Bidisha, attended the event as the chief guest.

Chaired by BBR Director Prof  Dr. Md. ABM Shahidul Islam, the seminar featured a speech by the Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, Prof  Dr. Mahmud Osman Imam, as the special guest. Prominent economists, young researchers, and students from Dhaka University presented papers.

Professor Dr. Sayma Haque Bidisha emphasized avoiding budget cuts in critical sectors such as education, health, and research, stressing the need to strengthen ministry-based and project-based monitoring and evaluation systems for effective budget implementation. She thanked the organizers for involving students in research and budget discussions, noting that such initiatives would enhance students’ research proficiency.

The seminar highlighted the importance of increasing allocations for education and health to promote human resource development, enhancing investments in technical and job-oriented education and training, creating employment opportunities for youth and marginalized communities, reducing poverty, strengthening social safety net programs, ensuring accountability in the financial sector, and promoting transparency, digital governance, and youth participation in the budget implementation process.
