Power cuts will be enforced if ACs set below 25-degree Celsius: Adviser

Staff Correspondent

Energy and Minerals Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan on Monday said authorities will cut power supplies if residences, mosques and offices set air-conditioners’ (AC) temperature below 25-degree Celsius during the upcoming Ramadan month and summer season.

The Power Division would deploy teams to enforce the directive in this regard with a view to saving power and avoiding arbitrary outages during summer as well as the Islamic month of fasting, the adviser told a press briefing during the Deputy Commissioner Conference 2025.

Violators would face power cuts and other legal measures, he warned.

The daily power demand is expected to reach at least 18,000 megawatts in summer, incurring at least 3,000MW outage. Last year, daily power generation averaged 15,000MW.

The government expects 15,000MW daily power demand in the holy month of Ramadan, ahead of summer, and is working to avoid all outages. Only technical fault-related outages can be tolerated, Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan said. Letters asking officials to run air conditioners at or above 25 degrees Celsius in ministry offices will be sent to all the advisers of the interim government and the cabinet secretary.
