An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was injured after a large portion of ceiling plaster suddenly fell inside the duty officer’s room at Dimla Police Station in Nilphamari.

A desktop computer used for official police work was also damaged and rendered completely unusable in the incident.
The incident occurred at around 10:45 pm on Friday inside the old building of Dimla Police Station.

According to police sources, ASI Md. Moslim Uddin was on duty as the duty officer when a large section of plaster from the ceiling suddenly collapsed onto his shoulder. He sustained injuries in the incident and was later taken to Dimla Upazila Health Complex for medical treatment.

ASI Md. Moslim Uddin said, “I was performing my duties as the duty officer when the ceiling plaster suddenly fell. I sustained an injury to my shoulder.”
Dimla Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shawkat Ali Sarker confirmed the incident and said, “We have already informed the Police Superintendent about the matter. He is looking into it seriously. Steps may be taken to repair the building as early as tomorrow.”

The OC further said, “Accidents never come with prior notice. Those who served as officers-in-charge before me had already submitted a demand for a new building. We hope a new building will be constructed within a short period.”

The incident has raised concerns over the safety of police personnel working in the old building of the police station. Local stakeholders believe that the dilapidated structure of such an important government facility should be repaired immediately or replaced with a new building.

They also stressed that urgent action is necessary not only to ensure a safe working environment for police personnel but also to protect government equipment and other public assets.
