Police have secured three days’ remand to question three suspects jailed over vandalism, looting and theft at a New Gini Properties project near Dhaka’s ECB Chattar.

On Wednesday, the investigating officer also sought five-day remand for three others, including Mizanur Rahman, son-in-law of Jamaat-e-Islami MP Abdul Gafur.

Prosecution SI Tarekur Rahman said the court fixed Thursday for the remand hearing of the three in their presence.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman issued the orders on Wednesday following the investigator’s applications.

The three sent to remand are Mamun, identified by a single name, Md Aslam and Md Munna. The Thursday hearing will concern Mizanur, Shahriar Mahmud and Shah Alam.

Cantonment Police Inspector Subrata Debnath had sought five-day remand for the three suspects on Sunday.

The court sent them to jail and fixed Wednesday for the hearing. They were produced in court that day, Tarekur said.

The investigator then sought five-day remand for Mizanur and the other two arrested suspects.

Mizanur was arrested by detectives in his home in West Matikata on Monday afternoon. The MP was also at the house at the time.

New Gini Properties in South Manikdi, near ECB Chattar, was attacked, vandalised and looted on Saturday night.

Content creator Salman Muqtadir’s Brownfish studio at the housing project was also attacked.

Director Saiful Islam Bhuiyan filed the case with Cantonment Police Station, naming 13 people, including retired major general Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury. Another 150-200 unidentified people were also accused.

Police said a preliminary investigation points to a dispute over land possession, but the specific cause will be established after further investigation.
