Police Headquarters warns of strict action against taking law into own hands

Staff Correspondent

In response to recent incidents of mob killings, the Bangladesh Police Headquarters has issued a stern warning against taking the law into one’s own hands.

The police have observed several brutal cases where people were killed through mob justice, which the authority strongly condemns, said a press release issued by Police Headquarters (PHQ) on Friday.

In the press release, the Bangladesh Police clarified that anyone attempting to take the law into their own hands will face strict legal consequences. They reiterated that there are established legal processes in place for handling criminal activities, and no individual has the right to bypass the law.

"If someone commits a crime or wrongdoing, they should be handed over to the authorities for legal action. There is no justification for taking matters into your own hands," read the press release.

The PHQ urged citizens to contact the national emergency service at 999 or their nearest police station if they witness any crime.

The public is encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement to prevent any recurrence of mob justice incidents, said the press release.

The Bangladesh Police remains committed to upholding law and order and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, it added.
