Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has greeted Vladimir Putin on his re-election as the President of Russia.

The election results were officially made public by the Russian Central Election Commission at 11:00am (local time) and 2:00pm (Bangladesh time) on Thursday.

Vladimir Putin received 87.28% of votes, the highest ever result in Russia's post-Soviet history, Communist Party's Nikolay Kharitonov got 4.31%, the New People party's Vladislav Davankov secured 3.85%, Liberal Democratic Party of Russia's Leonid Slutsky 3.20% in the presidential election, said Russian Central Election Commission chief Ella Pamfilova.

The former KGB lieutenant colonel Putin first came to power in 1999. If Putin, 71, completes his six-year tenure this time, he will become Russia's longest-serving leader for more than 200 years.
